Think about auto touch up paint? That’s a good idea as only a responsible car owners take care of their beloved automobiles and want them to look awesome! The main problem is to decide if you do really need touch up paint or waxing a car would be enough.
The repair procedure of paint scratches and paint chips are almost the same. Stone chips, scratches left by tree branches and other minor damages look ugly, especially on dark colored cars. But worse still, because the stone chips, scratches and scuffs have permeated your paint. These factors can be a reason of rust which very difficult to remove once it appeared.
But before applying auto touch up paint or repair chips we recommend you to wash and polish your car first. You must have a clean surface to have auto body finishing completed. Wax and grease remover is one of the more useful things you have. Sometimes it is better to hire a professional to do some jobs.
Some solvents are available for you to use but you are taking risks by using them. If you’re new to painting, you might be disappointed by your results if you didn’t take proper care before priming. You have to use the proper equipments if you want to get a good result. It is then just a matter of knowing how to utilize them. Finally, figure out when and where to use them.
Inspect your car to identify the areas you have to repair and how many chips or scratches you have to deal with. Most stone chips will be on the hood around the grill and lights. Also pay a careful attention to the wing mirrors areas. Check around the bottoms of the doors. You should also have a good look along the edges of the doors and boot, and don’t forget to check inside the door shuts. Often there are small chips and scratches cased by people’s feet.
Items you Must Have for paint chip repair procedure:
Auto touch up paint or touch in paint kit. Most car touch up pain kits from a dealership includes the base coat and the clear coat. Sometimes touch in paint kits include a primer as well. First of all you have to determine if the paint chip repair system you are buying is the right auto touch up paint for your vehicle. If you are not sure that the auto touch up paint kit has everything you need, buy separately the following items: small scraper or sandpaper, primer, base coat, plastic objects for removing rust, miniature wire brushes or sanding pads, lacquer and sponge backed sanding pad.
We strongly recommend that when you get your car from the dealers, you also collect a touch up paint of the appropriate color. You can also receive the paint code numbers of your car from their parts department. If you do not know what the paint code number is, just call your local dealer, they should be able to tell you the paint code from the registration number.
You should then check for chips every time you clean your car and touch them in as soon as possible.
To prevent a stone chip damages we do recommend you to use a special plastic films that fits to the most unprotected areas of your car. These plastic films are almost invisible but very strong and protect your car’s fenders, hood and other areas that damaged more often.
Sometimes automotive touch up painting is not a good solution, especially if your car has a lot of micro stone chips or debris. In this case it would be much better to waxing car instead of painting all of these chips and scratches. Colored car wax can do this job better and without any additional efforts. Make sure that the darker version of car wax usually works best. If your automobile is medium red, don’t use the medium red colored car wax, get dark wax instead.
Make your own choice while decided to touch up paint or waxing your car. Anyway, make sure that you have everything you need to do this job. Always try to use the hi-qualified kits and equipments.

its really ugly to see some scratches on the car but its expensive to have a touch up paint than waxing it. However, knowing now that scratches can cause rust growing from the inside is really a bad news thanks yo tour info. Gotta save up for that then rather than spend more on rust repairs.

I’ve seen a lot of DIY auto body repairsr and I’m sorry to report most of them require complete re-do’s. And corrections cost more than an original repair would because so much needs to be corrected. But if you are really meticulousabout your steps and use your local auto body supply store for advice, you can deliver great results on the first shot.

Some really great tips here. I agree you need a relly clean surface before applying the touch up paint. Cars will always get scratched. Repairing the damage early is crucial to a good job so check youe car weekly.
